The Student Council at Scoil Réalt na Mara helps promote student voice in school affairs, fostering collaboration among students, staff and parents. By empowering students to actively participate in decision-making processes, the Student Council cultivates valuable communication, planning and organizational skills essential for their future endeavors.

With a primary focus on promoting student interests and engagement, the Student Council acts as a platform for enhancing communication among all stakeholders. Through structured partnerships, it fosters an environment conducive to both educational and personal growth, while also nurturing friendships and respect among peers.

Driven by its objectives, the Student Council undertakes a variety of activities throughout the year:

  • Representing the views of the student body to the school management
  • Promoting good communication within the school
  • Supporting the educational development and progress of students
  • Assisting with the induction of new junior infant students
  • Contributing to the development of school policy
  • Assisting in school sporting and cultural activities
  • Assisting with or organising fund-raising events for charity

In fulfilling its mandate, the Student Council collaborates closely with school management, teachers, and parents, ensuring broad student participation and meaningful impact. Through its dedication to student leadership and community engagement, the Student Council embodies the spirit of active citizenship and empowerment within our primary school.

Student Council Representatives

At Scoil Réalt na Mara, the Student Council is composed of two representatives from each classroom from 2nd to 6th class, elected by their peers. Annually, students from these classes are invited to nominate themselves for the Student Council. Prior to the voting process, candidates are given the opportunity to present speeches outlining their proposed goals.

Following this, elections are conducted within each class via secret ballot, allowing peers to democratically elect their representatives. Throughout the school year, the Student Council convenes regularly to deliberate and pinpoint areas for action, ensuring student voices are heard and represented in decision-making processes.
